Gaston Trauffler works as scientific collaborator at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). Since June 2002 he is part to the research group of Prof. Hugo Tschirky, who chairs the fields of General Management, Technology and Innovations Management, and Executive Management Advanced Development at the ETH Center for Enterprise Science.

Curriculum Vitae

Gaston Trauffler was born on December 23, 1975 in Gosseldange, Luxembourg he moved to Zurich, Switzerland, in 1996. In 2002 he obtained his ETH degree in Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Management with majors in Technology and Innovation Management and Biocompatible Materials Science and Engineering. His studies included a half a year internship of practical experience at ASCOM in Bern, Switzerland. Upon completion of his internship he was assigned the leadership of a three month project designing a concept for a Balanced Scorecard for two large ASCOM units. He gained further experience in the domain of knowledge management during an academic project at SIEMENS in Munich, Germany. His final thesis on ‘Strategic IT-Innovation Management’ was done in cooperation with BMW Group also in Munich.

Research Interest

His research activities are directed towards the management of technology-based enterprises, in particular strategic planning of new science-driven technologies. The focus of his dissertation lies on the development of methods and tools promoting strategic planning of discontinuous technologies and radical innovations. The aimed reduction of the technology and market uncertainties through a systematic decision making process on the strategic level represents a high potential for technology and innovation management.
