Claudia Wohlfahrtstätter worked as a scientific collaborator at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETH Zürich). She belonged to the research group of Prof. Dr. Roman Boutellier, who chairs the fields of Technology and Innovation Management at the Department «Management, Technology, and Economics» (D-MTEC).
Before joining the Department of Technology & Innovation TIM in June 2007, Claudia Wohlfahrtstätter was Vice President and Member of the Executive Board at EGL AG - Elektrizitätsgesellschaft Laufenburg AG, one of the most important Energy Trading Companies in Europe. She was responsible for Risk Management, Research, Human Resources, Marketing and Services for EGL group and was appointed as Member of the Board of Directors of several EGL subsidiaries throughout Europe. Prior to EGL, Claudia Wohlfahrtstätter was a Consultant & Management Development Professional in a Swiss based Consulting Company in Zug for 12 years. Before that she establised the administration and organisation department in Davos for the 'Annual Meeting' of the World Economic Forum WEF, Geneva. She has a Master Degree in Economics of the University in Zürich. Her dissertation defense was on June 15th, 2010. She presented her dissertation ' Innovation in the Siss Elecitricity sector between supply security and liberalisation' and passed successfully.
Her research activities are in the electricity sector, mainly in Switzerland. The Swiss electric power industry faces a portfolio of challenges: how to replace the aging production of nuclear power plants and how to meet the future demand of electricity. These are decisions which need to be taken in the near future. Simultaneously Switzerland is implementing an initial batch of new rules and regulations with regard to the energy market liberalization which is an additional challenge. Furthermore the European Union is pushing Switzerland into taking over their market rules. Any of these pending decisions will have an impact on the future Swiss power production mix, the self- sufficiency and effectiveness of the cross-border trade. In addition many of the decisions might also be subject to referendum polls under the Swiss political system of direct democracy.
